I love Rita's!!! This particular location is great. ALWAYS great customer service, ALL the staff are pleasant & cordial. I'm a tough customer to please, yet they never "bat an eye" PLUS they have Alex's Lemonade 95% of the time, which is by far the best flavor, but don't take my word for it because I'm bias towards lemonade flavors, just go and try yourself. You won't be disappointed!! They deserve your business.

Normally Rita's is a big treat. My grade is for No custard due to egg shortage. Serving ice cream instead! In the meantime, the company announced on signs in store they replacing their custard with soft-serve ice cream temporarily. A big disappointment.

Ok, RITAs has a business gets 5 stars in my book... I'll tell you why... But this particular location.... ehhh... Rita's is awesome... very affordable, tasty italian ice and custards. They have a range of flavors, which you can sample. You can mix the different italian ice flavors together. You can mix the custard and ice to make a Misto, which is kinda like a milkshake. There's this blendini thing, all great stuff. This location though is pretty lacking on available flavors. Staff looks bored and play and goof around behind the counter. The floors here were really sticky. I understand, kids spill stuff, but send someone out to mop, this is gross. The overall cleanliness of this location was just poor, I wanted to get my italian ice and get the F*&% outta there!

This was my very first Rita's experience -- I feel like I've heard folks talk and talk about this custard, so I was pretty pumped when I realized there was one right next to the Home Depot we'd driven south for. Rita's wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I had only heard about the custard and not so much about the ice, so I was a little skeptical when told that a "Blendini" was a combo of ice and custard. Wouldn't that make my custard turn into little ice crystals, like when my ice cream gets freezer burn, or at the very least, water it down? Apparently not. I did the Oreo, vanilla ice and twist (chocolate and vanilla) custard, which produced a smooth, refreshing (weird for chocolate, I know) tasty treat. My hubs did Reese's, vanilla ice and vanilla custard. Solid. His might have even been better. I don't think you get a size option, but whatever we got was relatively small (but certainly enough) and still, for the two of us, cost $10. Kinda pricey for MD I thought but who am I to say. Your other options are all either ice (italian or cream) or custard or some combo of those two, examples of the latter being the Gelati, Misto or the aforementioned Blendini. And that's really where I got confused. Fortunately, your friendly staff person will be happy to help. I give 4 stars because the two ladies staffing the place were just so sweet and helpful, very positive attitude, happy to let you taste and answer your silly, mundane questions about what their favorite flavor is, what the best combos are, etc. etc. They were great. As a chain, though, I'd tell Rita's they need to do a better job of helping people figure out what their options really are. There are still some of us out there who have never been, who you can convert to followers, but who still need help with the menu! Some of the photos on the wall would say whether the item was custard or ice or both, but some didn't, so I was either left to wonder or to bother the staff with my endless questions. I also think they might consider some mix-ins beyond chocolate cookies and candy bars that would make for a more attractive combination with the many fruit flavors they have to offer. Not that Rita's HQ really cares what I have to say in this little Yelp review but, you know. Just sayin.

I was taken to Rita's on July 1st 2012. I had never set foot in one before this and I would say it was a good experience. When I walked in I saw that it was the Baskin and Robbins of Italian Ice. There was a wide selection and it was a good place to sit and have a cool and refreshing dessert on such a hot day (as it was). However, the smell that filled the place was not that of Italian Ice. There was a heavy aroma of bleach and something else that I can't quite put my finger on. It wasn't unbearable because I would've left immediately. The service was great and they were focused on meeting our needs in a timely fashion. The servings were more than enough and I'll say the taste was unlike any Italian Ice I've had before. I was awesome. I would choose a Rita's Ice over a 7-11 Slurpee any day and I'm a big Slurpee fan!!!

Greetings Republic of YELP! I realize that I have been on a review hiatus and I intend to rectify that post haste... ok for all those that just want the regular talk... ok um ... My Bad for the delay, I'm gonna hook you up right now. :o) Well, through the winter months I perserved (ha!)... held on (ha!)... maintained hope (ha!)... against all hope (ha!).... that the day would come swiftly (ha!) for my reunion with the frigid confections that Ritas creates. [ok for ya'll that know nothing about Sourthern Baptist preachers who get excited when they are in the 'zone'- uh just disregard the 'ha!'s] Now you all know I am a certified Rockvillian, so in case you havent noticed I write specifically about the Ritas in Oxon Hill. Thats because when it comes to your relationships with franchises that can mass produce yummy concoctions, the area of distinction comes from knowing the people who manage or own the establishment. When I met the manager Victor, he walked through the prep area looking like an upbeat guy with a great energy who like to keep a sheppard-like watch over the high-schoolers he hand-selects to work in his shop. It was that sheppard like quality that gave me the hunch that he was probably, what we Southerners refer to as, "good people". I managed to strike up a great convo with Victor and learned not only about the him but how his Rita's establishment came to be. The husband and wife duo ( that Vic is 50% of ) labored a long time to wait for appropriate timing, location, and funding to line up the grand opening of their eatery which is basically a culmination of prayer, sweat, and persistence. In an effort to preserve the good Karma that rests on this location, Victor (a retired educator in PG County) actually maintains his connection to local high schools by giving talks to students about being good people and the goals they can acheive if they , too, work hard. For exemplary students who Vic deems to be on good paths, he grants them part time jobs and further tutelage about having positive attitudes and taking care of things they earn, that includes the respect of people. Become a regular of this place, and prepare for a CHEERs moment, when you are greeted by name. This is in addition to the many other notable community connections that Victor and his wife have forged, is the standout reason that RITAS OF OXON HILL earns my highest recommendation. Now, as for the frozen treats Italian Ice, they might as well call this stuff frozen contraban. It is SO good it really should be outlawed. Its not your run of the mill 'snowcone" stop - scratch that idea-, this frozen ice stuff is mega smooth -the microscopic icey particles gel together like ice cream and once in your mouth it becomes a well rounded, smooth flavor bomb! All the tastes buds left and right side of the tongue will take notice and send signals to your brain to scoop your spoon again. There are flavors that are subtle to choose from like Mango but there are more robust flavors such as Georgia Peach - there are even sugar free flavors. If you are living on the wild side then top your Italian Ice with some Custard. (For those of yall who just made that yuck face at the mention of "custard") Custard is actually a much denser type of ice cream which not only makes it richer tasting but helps it to stay in form longer and not melt away like ice cream can do when the temperature changes. They even have a treat choice where they perfectly blend the custard with the Italian Ice. Now - as I mentioned before the treats ALONE are enough to get a 4/5 stars but its the start-up story and the current community-minded swagger of Victor and his wife that earn a 5 - shux, an implied 6- out of 5 stars along with my recommendation for you to check them out, enjoy a treat and say hi to Victor-tell him CeCe sent you! He's "good people".
